Why is bypass filtration so important to the life of an engine? Can running bypass filtration increase my engine life?

Bypass filtration is the key to not only lowering your maintenance costs but also increasing the life of your equipment. Why? Chances are that the fluids in your equipment do not meet the component manufacturer's specifications for cleanliness. The small particles of soot and carbon in your engine oil will wear the internal components of your engine much faster than one might imagine.

With bypass filtration or a series of offline filters, your fluid will stay in excellent condition for extended periods, no matter what the application. This is because fluids are slowly filtered through a special cartridge element, and are filtered down to just 1 micron. Normal OEM filters will only filter to 30-40 microns; this will not take out the harmful particles that do the most engine wear.

The chart below comes from General Motors on a test of a Detroit engine. As you can see by filtering to below five micron, the life of your engine is increased by 8 times. Just imagine if you filter to one micron and eliminate 100% of the water buildup in your oil.

Even if you turn your trucks every three to four years, you are still better off by having less breakdowns and by filtering your oil to a cleaner specification. As an added bonus... we have testing data that shows a gain of 5% better gas mileage with cleaner oil.
