How
To Utilize A Filter Cart To Give Your Lubricants... 'New Life'
Chances are
that the fluids in your equipment do not meet the component manufacturer's
specifications for cleanliness.
With periodic fine
filtering from a filtration cart, your fluid will stay in excellent
condition for extended periods.
Fluids filtered
through a quality filter cart, are often up to 2 grades cleaner
than new oil right from the barrel. Filter carts that employ fine
filtering media, can clean particles down to just 1 micron and at
the same time, remove 100% of water accumulation... a BIG plus for
hydraulic systems.
Buyer beware...
not all filtration carts are created equal.
Leave the Sandblasting to the
Painters
Particles within a hydraulic system act similar to a sandblaster...
with up to 10,000 lbs. of pressure wearing on your hoses, seals
and valves.
Over time, these particles cause
significant damage to your equipment which leads to costly downtime.
Sounds Interesting, But How Will
a Filter Cart Help Me?
For many companies, maintenance costs are soaring out of control
and drastically reducing the bottom line of the company. Equipment
downtime from failure is drastic and very expensive.
There are many solutions to improving
your overall equipment reliability, but probably one of the most
simple and cost effective programs is a "Lube Oil Contamination
Control Program".
Why? Because internal wear leads
to costly maintenance and eventually - failure - which relates to
downtime, replacement parts labor costs, and eventually replacement.
Therefore: If you can reduce internal wear, you can obtain continuous
savings throughout the life of the equipment.
Typically about 80% of internal
equipment wear is produced from lube oil contaminants less than
10 micron. The sand blast effect of dirty oil under 5,000 lbs of
pressure wears seals, hoses and pumps. By cleaning the oil, maintenance
costs are dramatically reduced.
A good example is shown in the EQUIPMENT
LIFE EXTENSION TABLE
The table shows that by reducing
the ISO contamination level from a 23/20 to a 16/13 level, you can
achieve a minimum of 3x and a maximum of 7x life extension for the
equipment or component. A dramatic long - term savings!
Universal Application and Several
Uses (Courtesy of Noria Corporation)
One of the most cost effective solutions to obtain these results
is a portable filtration cart. There are several uses for a filter
cart that go beyond periodic contamination control. Some of these
applications include:
- Power Flush
This involves reducing the oil level in a tank or sump and flowing
the oil at a high velocity across the bottom to push out low-lying
sediment.
- Wand Flush
A wand is attached to one of the cart hoses and is used first
to discharge at high pressure (kicking up adherent debris) and
then the flow is reversed and the wand vacuums the sediments.
- Transfer Cart
Oil is transferred from a storage container (tote, drum, etc.)
to the machine's lube compartment.
- Cleaning Stored Lubes
In this application, the cart multipasses fluid out of and back
into the drum or tote to drawn down contamination, for instance,
going from an ISO 24/21/18 to a 17/14/11.
- System Drain
Sump and reservoir drains will wash out debris better if the waste
oil is pumped out as opposed to simply flowing out by gravity.
- Offline Filtration
Filter carts can be mounted permanently to a machine to supplement
filtration.
- Line Flush
Often remote lines and components need to be partitioned to enable
flushing. This can be done easily with a filter cart.
- Hose Cleaning
New hoses can be flushed of debris using a filter cart before
they are installed on the machine.
- Repairs and Equipment Rebuild
Flushing
After machines are serviced they need to be flushed thoroughly
before they are returned to service.
- Flushing During Equipment
Commissioning
New machines have original fabrication debris and dirt that have
ingressed during transport and storage.
- Filtakleen USA offers
a wide range of Portable Filter Carts to meet your company's specific
needs, and we will be happy to assist you in choosing the proper
model for your applications. We can also mount any of our filters
on your equipment so there is a continuous filtering of oil.
